The ILAC Arrangement Management Committee (AMC) has made a recommendation to its members that there be an extension to the deadline for the transition to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard from the current November 30th, 2020 deadline to June 1, 2021.  Given the global impact of the coronavirus and the subsequent health and safety measures that have been put in place, an extension seems warranted.

The ILAC AMC is now waiting on a 30-day referendum by the ILAC voting members.  A decision is expected in June.  CALA will continue to move forward with plans for remote assessment options for CALA-accredited laboratories still needing to transition to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 providing the laboratory has the capability to do so.  “We feel that even if the extension is approved, there is still too much uncertainty around CALA’s ability to be performing on-site assessments,” advises Colleen Cotter, CALA’s Accreditation Manager.
